Hand-painted wooden wall roundel in the style of a traditional Austrian Schützenscheibe, dated 1977. Featuring a leaping deer, hunting dog and bird beneath heraldic motifs, it reflects the Alpine hunting tradition.
Painted Schützenscheiben have a long tradition in Austria, particularly within shooting-club and Alpine folk culture. Originally, Schützenscheiben were painted wooden targets used for shooting competitions. They were created for organised shooting events and often commemorated a specific occasion through symbolic or humorous imagery. Similar hand-painted roundels are also made as presentation pieces for weddings, birthdays, club anniversaries and other celebrations.
